The
Knueppel, who has been managing a left hamstring strain, is currently working his way back to full fitness. While the organization noted that he has recently resumed individual on-court activities, he is not yet ready for game action. Similarly, Coby White remains unavailable as he continues to recover from a left calf strain sustained during training camp on October 5.
Injury setbacks for key backcourt contributors
The absence of Knueppel is a notable blow for Charlotte following his standout 2025-26 campaign. During that season, he appeared in 81 games and established himself as a premier perimeter threat, averaging 18.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists. His shooting prowess was particularly impactful, as he connected on 42.5% of his shots from beyond the arc and set a new NBA record with 273 made 3-pointers, surpassing the previous rookie mark of 206 held by Keegan Murray. These efforts secured him a spot on the All-Rookie First Team and a second-place finish in the Rookie of the Year voting.
Coby White’s absence also leaves a void in the Hornets' lineup. After being acquired from the Chicago Bulls in February, White became a pivotal figure for the team, highlighted by a 19-point performance in a crucial play-in victory against the Miami Heat. His late-game heroics, including a decisive 3-pointer that forced overtime, helped solidify his role in the team's future plans, leading to a three-year, $74 million contract extension signed this past summer. White missed the entirety of the preseason following his injury earlier this month.
Looking ahead to the season opener
The Hornets are set to face the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday at 7:30 ET. With both Knueppel and White sidelined, the team will look to adjust their rotation as they kick off their regular-season schedule. The status of both players for subsequent games remains to be seen as they continue their respective rehabilitation programs.
