In his new capacity, Weems will oversee roster management, contract negotiations, and global scouting, while continuing to collaborate closely with Altman on NBA Draft strategy and player evaluation.
Koby Altman praised the internal promotions, noting that the new leadership team has been instrumental in the franchise's recent growth. "Brandon has earned this opportunity through more than a decade of exceptional work with the Cavaliers and by consistently demonstrating elite judgment," Altman stated. José Calderón, who returned to the Cavaliers in 2022 as a Special Advisor, brings his extensive experience as a 14-year NBA veteran to the Assistant General Manager position. His background includes a tenure with the National Basketball Players Association, where he worked on union strategy. Rounding out the new appointments is Dashiell Flynn, who joins the team from Amazon Web Services. As the new Chief Technology Officer of Basketball Operations, Flynn is tasked with integrating advanced machine learning and AI infrastructure into the team’s strategic planning processes.
