Former NBA Star Blake Griffin to Launch Weekly Late-Night Talk Show

Former NBA standout Blake Griffin is set to make a significant move into the entertainment industry with the launch of his own weekly late-night talk show. Titled The Stepback with Blake Griffin, the project marks a new chapter for the six-time All-Star, who has spent the last year transitioning into media and production roles following his storied basketball career.

The series is scheduled to debut on October 20, coinciding with the opening day of the NBA regular season. Produced by Mortal Media—the production company founded by Griffin and former NFL player Ryan Kalil—the show will feature a live studio audience. According to reports, new episodes are slated to air every Tuesday, offering the former athlete a platform to share his perspectives on current sports trends, including the evolving landscapes of NIL and sports betting.

A New Venture in Media and Entertainment

Griffin’s foray into the late-night genre follows a successful stint as a studio analyst for Amazon’s NBA coverage last season. The production is a collaborative effort involving Amazon Studios, YouTube, and Wondery. In a statement regarding the new venture, Griffin expressed his admiration for the late-night format, citing programs like The Daily Show and Last Week Tonight as inspirations for his own approach to the genre.

The athlete-turned-host announced the news on social media with a characteristically dry wit, joking that the show provides him with a chance to recreate the final years of his playing career by simply sitting down. This project is the latest in a series of entertainment endeavors for Griffin, who has previously appeared on Saturday Night Live, voiced a role on The Simpsons, and acted in the 2023 remake of White Men Can't Jump. His background also includes experience in stand-up comedy, having performed at open mic events in both Hollywood and Montreal over the past decade.
