Kylian Mbappe Nets Brace as Real Madrid Cruise Past Sevilla

Real Madrid climbed to third place in La Liga on Sunday following a commanding 4-1 victory over Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabeu. The win, orchestrated by a brace from Kylian Mbappe and a stunning opening goal from Arda Guler, sees Jose Mourinho’s side move above Real Betis in the table as they build momentum ahead of next weekend’s Clasico against Barcelona.

The match was not without controversy, as Sevilla coach Luis Garcia Plaza expressed significant frustration regarding an early incident involving Guler. The midfielder appeared to elbow Sevilla’s Peque midway through the first half, an action that went unpunished by the officials. Plaza later suggested that the decision to keep Guler on the pitch denied his team a fair chance to compete, claiming they should have been playing against ten men from the 25th minute onwards.

A Masterclass in Attacking Football

Despite the early tension, Real Madrid’s quality eventually shone through. Guler broke the deadlock in the 30th minute with a moment of individual brilliance, lofting a strike into the top corner after receiving a pass from Yan Diomande, who had been set up by Jude Bellingham. The goal provided the hosts with the breakthrough they needed to dismantle the Sevilla defense.

Kylian Mbappe then took center stage, showcasing his world-class ability with a sensational individual effort. After a clever backheel from Bellingham, the French forward executed a roulette turn on the edge of the box before sidestepping the goalkeeper to slot home. Mbappe added his second of the evening from the penalty spot, dinking a Panenka-style effort into the net after being fouled by Andres Castrin. This marked his ninth league goal of the campaign.

Closing the Gap

Sevilla managed a brief response through a neat finish from Manuel Bueno, but any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished. Yan Diomande capped off the scoring with a powerful strike from outside the area, marking his second goal since his summer arrival from RB Leipzig. The result leaves Real Madrid six points behind league leaders Barcelona, who defeated Betis on Saturday.

Reflecting on the performance, manager Jose Mourinho praised the collective effort of his squad, noting that the team is still in the early stages of development. While the club has been vocal about their frustrations with officiating in recent weeks, the focus now shifts to their upcoming Champions League fixture against RB Leipzig and the highly anticipated clash at the Camp Nou.
