The Indian Super League's next season has been postponed and will commence only following the conclusion of the FIFA window.

Indian Super League Delayed for One Month; Revised Schedule Released

The Indian Super League (ISL) is poised to kick off later than initially planned, with the new season now set to commence after October 6. This delay pushes the start date back by over a month from the original schedule of September 4, as the league will begin following the FIFA international window, which runs from September 21 to October 6. Confirmation of the fixtures is anticipated soon.

Changes in Team Participation

This season, the ISL will feature 13 teams, a reduction from the expected 14. The change comes after Diamond Harbour FC, the champions of the Indian Football League 2025-26, failed to meet the extended deadline for their second installment of the participation fee, which amounts to Rs 55 lakh. The deadline was set for Wednesday, and the club had earned its place in the ISL by winning the previous league season.

A senior official from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) confirmed the situation, stating, “The ISL is likely to start only in October after the FIFA window.” The official further noted, “We are going with 13 teams in the ISL.” All participating clubs were required to pay a total participation fee of Rs 1.1 crore, with the second installment due by August 14. Diamond Harbour FC was granted an extension until the recent deadline but ultimately did not fulfill the payment requirement.

Financial Commitments and League Preparations

In light of the confirmed number of teams, AIFF representatives expressed satisfaction, indicating that this clarity allows for progress in commercial negotiations and fixture planning for the upcoming season. Churchill Brothers successfully paid the full participation fee of Rs 1.1 crore by the August 14 deadline, securing their position in the league. This payment came after Jamshedpur Football Club sold its entire stake to the Goan side, leading to Jamshedpur FC's withdrawal from the ISL and the disbandment of its first team on July 31, shortly after the initial fee deadline.
