Five-time World Champions Brazil Arrive in Kolkata for India Friendly

The Brazilian national football team touched down in Kolkata on Wednesday evening, marking the start of their highly anticipated visit for Saturday's friendly match against India. The five-time world champions arrived at approximately 8:45 pm, greeted by a massive security operation designed to manage the arrival of the high-profile squad.

Local authorities implemented strict measures to ensure the safety of the touring party, which consists of roughly 90 people. Police restricted fan access at the airport and along the transit route to the team hotel on the EM Bypass. The squad was transported in two buses decorated in Brazil’s iconic yellow and green colors, escorted by a convoy of pilot and private vehicles. The entire exit process from the airport was completed within an 11-minute window.

Star Power and Squad Adjustments

Despite the heavy security presence, the arrival generated significant excitement at the team hotel. Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior received a warm welcome from those inside the lobby, with chants of his name greeting the players as they arrived wearing olive-green hoodies and yellow caps.

The squad is notably missing Barcelona winger Raphinha, who has returned to Spain for medical treatment after sustaining a right thigh injury during Brazil's recent 4-2 victory over Australia. The team has taken extensive measures to ensure their preparation remains unaffected, traveling with their own chef and hygiene manager. The hotel has coordinated with the team to manage specific dietary needs, including the importation of turkey, chicken, and lamb, while incorporating local Bhetki fish into their meal plans.

Preparations for the Salt Lake Stadium Clash

The upcoming match is a key fixture in India’s series against high-profile international opponents, which kicked off on September 25 against Panama in Bengaluru. Following the Brazil encounter, the Indian side is scheduled to face Uruguay, managed by Diego Forlan, on October 6, before heading to New Zealand for further friendlies in November.

The Salt Lake Stadium has undergone significant renovations to prepare for the visit of world-class teams. The playing surface has been overhauled with the assistance of Brazilian turf expert Ivan Nascimento, and the facility has received a fresh coat of paint. Brazil is expected to hold a training session at the stadium on Friday at 4 pm, following a pre-match press conference held by coach Carlo Ancelotti and a player representative earlier that morning.
