Alexis Mac Allister Reveals He Considered Liverpool Exit After Contract Frustration

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has revealed that he contemplated a departure from Anfield during the summer transfer window. The Argentina international expressed his disappointment after being informed by the club that they were not in a position to offer him a contract extension, despite seeing several of his teammates secure new deals.

The 27-year-old addressed the media during a pre-match press conference on Tuesday ahead of Liverpool's Champions League fixture against Atletico Madrid. While acknowledging that he had received interest from other clubs, Mac Allister maintained that he remains fully committed to the Premier League side, where he currently has two years remaining on his existing contract.

Contract Disappointment and Future Commitment

Mac Allister’s comments followed the news that fellow midfielders Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch had recently extended their stays with the club. The midfielder admitted that while he was pleased for his teammates, the contrast in his own situation left him feeling disheartened. He noted that his agent had been told by the club that a renewal was not currently on the table, a development he described as making him feel very sad.

Despite the uncertainty regarding his long-term future, the midfielder insisted that his focus remains entirely on his professional responsibilities at Anfield. He emphasised that he continues to provide his full effort during every training session and match, regardless of his personal form or the club's administrative decisions. He stated that he is determined to give 100 percent for the club until his final day, urging fans not to be concerned about his commitment to the team's cause.

Reflecting on Recent Form and Club Context

The midfielder acknowledged that his performance levels during the previous campaign were not at their peak, noting that he, like many of his colleagues, experienced a challenging season. The team’s overall performance during their recent Premier League campaign was described as lacklustre, a period that ultimately resulted in the departure of manager Arne Slot.

Looking ahead, Mac Allister expressed a sense of resolve, stating that he believes he is currently at the right club and possesses the correct mindset to contribute effectively. With his contract set to run for another two years, he remains open to future developments while reiterating that his immediate priority is to perform for Liverpool. The club now prepares to face Atletico Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday, with Mac Allister expected to play a role in the upcoming European encounter.
