Napoli Midfielder Scott McTominay Undergoes Successful Heart Procedure

Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay is expected to return to training within a fortnight after successfully undergoing surgery to correct a minor heart rhythm disorder. The 29-year-old Scotland international, who moved to the Serie A side from Manchester United in 2024, required the medical intervention to address the condition, which the club has confirmed is not considered serious.

The procedure, identified as an ablation, was performed on Tuesday morning at Spire Manchester Hospital. In an official statement released shortly after the operation, Napoli confirmed that the medical intervention was a complete success. The club outlined that the midfielder will now observe a two-week rest period before he is cleared to resume his training schedule with the squad.

Recovery Timeline and Impact on Fixtures

The timing of the procedure means that McTominay will be unavailable for several upcoming matches. Napoli, who have secured three points from their first three Serie A fixtures of the current campaign, are preparing for a Champions League encounter against Arsenal this Wednesday. Following that European tie, the team faces domestic league matches against Bologna and Fiorentina before the scheduled international break.

Beyond his club commitments, the midfielder will also miss Scotland’s upcoming Nations League schedule. The national team is set to face Slovenia twice, as well as Switzerland and North Macedonia, during the period in which McTominay will be sidelined for recovery.

Since his arrival in Italy, McTominay has established himself as a significant presence for Napoli, recording 27 goals across 82 appearances. While he has been a consistent contributor for the club, he had experienced a challenging start to the current season, appearing off-form during the team's opening two Serie A matches. The club remains focused on his recovery as they look to improve their domestic standing following the international break.
