Earlier in the tournament, during a semifinal clash against Central Zone in Bengaluru, he made a similarly decisive call to review a not-out decision against Aryan Juyal. The teenager’s contribution extended to active leadership when he took charge of the field during a brief period while Kishan was off the pitch. With South Zone positioned at 174/4 shortly before the tea interval, Sooryavanshi made the bold decision to reintroduce veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami into the attack.
The move was particularly significant given that Shami had required medical attention for a neck issue earlier in the day and had been limited in his bowling workload. Recognizing the opportunity to exploit the conditions before the break, Sooryavanshi’s gamble paid off immediately. Shami induced an edge from Smaran Ravichandran, the leading run-scorer from the previous Ranji Trophy season.
