The All India Football Federation has significantly reduced ticket prices for India's upcoming friendly against Uruguay at Salt Lake Stadium after failing to fill the venue for the recent Brazil match.

AIFF Slashes India vs Uruguay Ticket Prices by 90% Following Low Turnout

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has implemented a drastic reduction in ticket prices for the upcoming international friendly between India and Uruguay. The decision, which sees some ticket categories slashed by up to 90 percent, follows concerns regarding poor attendance at Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium during India’s recent encounter with Brazil.

The move comes in response to widespread criticism from fans who deemed the pricing structure for the Brazil match prohibitively expensive. While the previous fixture featured tickets ranging from Rs 999 to Rs 15,000, the stadium—which has a capacity of 85,000—recorded an official attendance of 51,402. The discrepancy between the high ticket costs and the typical pricing seen in the Indian Super League (ISL) sparked significant public dissatisfaction.

Restructuring Access and Government Involvement

In an effort to ensure a more robust turnout for the Uruguay match, the AIFF has adjusted specific seating tiers. For instance, tickets for the C2 Left and C2 Right blocks have been lowered from Rs 1,999 to Rs 199. Despite these adjustments, the impact of the late-notice price drop remains to be seen as the match approaches.

Beyond the price cuts, the West Bengal government has intervened to provide complimentary access to a specific group of supporters. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that approximately 22,000 individuals who were unable to attend last year’s "G.O.A.T India Tour" event featuring Lionel Messi will be eligible for free entry. The government plans to facilitate the distribution of these tickets via a dedicated WhatsApp number, aiming to compensate those affected by the overcrowding and security issues that marred the previous event.

Reflecting on the Brazil Performance

The push for higher attendance coincides with the national team's ongoing development on the pitch. In their recent 0-4 loss to Brazil, India demonstrated periods of competitive play despite the final scoreline. Tactical observations from the match noted that the midfield provided effective buildup solutions, while the defensive unit showed physical improvement as the game progressed. The attacking line, spearheaded by Ryan Williams, managed to create several opportunities during the second half, though the team was ultimately unable to convert these moments into goals.
