Virat Kohli Eyes Sachin Tendulkar’s New Zealand ODI Scoring Record

Virat Kohli enters the upcoming five-match ODI series against New Zealand with a significant personal milestone within reach. The former India captain is currently positioned as the third-highest run-scorer for India in ODIs played in New Zealand, trailing only the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.

With 514 runs accumulated across 11 matches, Kohli requires an additional 139 runs to overtake Tendulkar’s record of 652 runs. Tendulkar achieved his tally over 18 matches, maintaining an average of 38.35 with one century and four half-centuries, including a career-best unbeaten 163. Sehwag currently sits in second place with 598 runs from 12 appearances, boasting three centuries and two half-centuries.

India Sets Top-Order Strategy for New Zealand Series

Ahead of the series opener at Eden Park in Auckland, India captain Shubman Gill has provided clarity regarding the team’s batting structure. Gill confirmed that the top four positions are locked in, featuring an all-right-handed lineup consisting of himself, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer.

While the top order remains static, the team plans to adopt a more fluid approach for the middle-order slots. Gill indicated that the batting order for the No. 5 and No. 6 positions will be determined by match conditions, with KL Rahul and Axar Patel expected to rotate based on the need for a left-handed presence or specific tactical requirements.

The series, which commences on November 4, offers Kohli an opportunity to climb the historical rankings for Indian batters in the country. Currently, Kohli’s record in New Zealand includes one century and four half-centuries, with a top score of 123. Behind him, MS Dhoni occupies the fourth spot with 505 runs, while Rahul Dravid rounds out the top five with 425 runs.
