Flavio Cobolli Withdraws From Paris Masters Amid ATP Finals Qualification Race

Flavio Cobolli has officially withdrawn from the Paris Masters, dealing a significant setback to his aspirations of securing a debut appearance at the season-ending ATP Finals. The Italian player’s decision to pull out of the tournament follows a persistent muscle injury that had already forced him to retire during his second-round match in Vienna last week.

Despite the emotional toll of that earlier retirement, Cobolli had traveled to Paris with the hope that he might recover in time to compete. However, the injury has ultimately proven too restrictive, forcing him to abandon his campaign at the event and leaving his qualification status for the prestigious tournament in Turin in a state of uncertainty.

Impact on the ATP Finals Qualification Race

The withdrawal arrives at a critical juncture in the tennis calendar, with four of the eight qualifying spots for the ATP Finals still remaining to be filled. Cobolli currently holds the fifth position in the race, trailing the four players who have already confirmed their participation: Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Ben Shelton, and Daniil Medvedev. Jannik Sinner, the world number two, has already been ruled out of the season finale due to a knee injury.

With Cobolli sidelined, the competition for the remaining berths has intensified. Several players are looking to capitalize on the opportunity, including Arthur Fils, Frances Tiafoe, and Rafael Jodar. Jodar, who currently holds the final qualifying spot, demonstrated his form on Monday by defeating Alejandro Tabilo in straight sets. He is now set to face Casper Ruud in the next round of the Paris Masters.

The race remains highly competitive, with other notable contenders still in the hunt. Alex de Minaur, alongside seven-time Paris champion Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz, are all vying for points this week. For both Djokovic and Fritz, a deep run in the French capital is essential to keep their hopes of reaching Turin alive. As the tournament progresses, the focus will remain on whether the chasing pack can overtake the standings while Cobolli’s status remains sidelined.
