Tilak Varma and Shreyas Gopal showcased immense technical discipline during their 271-minute stand. Tilak, who finished the day unbeaten on 106, displayed extraordinary restraint, waiting until his 42nd delivery to find his first boundary. He did not hit another four until his 154th ball, a shot that pushed South Zone past the North Zone total. His innings of 225 balls was defined by this measured approach, with all seven of his boundaries coming after he had already reached his half-century.
Shreyas Gopal provided the perfect foil, contributing a composed 87 off 169 deliveries. His innings included 11 fours and kept the scoreboard moving while Tilak anchored the other end. The partnership was eventually broken by Arshdeep Singh, who induced an edge from Gopal that was safely taken by stand-in wicketkeeper Abdul Samad. Despite the loss of his partner, Tilak remained focused, hitting consecutive boundaries off Brar to reach his eighth first-class century in 219 balls.
By the close of play, South Zone had reached 285/9, holding a lead of 90 runs with one wicket remaining.
