Shikhar Dhawan shares significant insights on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, emphasizing that skill alone isn't enough.

Shikhar Dhawan, a former opener for the Indian cricket team, has expressed admiration for the young talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, highlighting the 15-year-old's remarkable ability to excel in high-pressure situations. In a recent interview with ANI, Dhawan emphasized that achieving international recognition at such a tender age is a significant milestone, particularly noting Sooryavanshi's impressive performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Dhawan pointed out that Sooryavanshi's fearless approach to batting, especially his knack for hitting boundaries, distinguishes him from his peers. He remarked, "It is a very big thing that at the age of 15 or 16, reaching the international level first is a big thing in itself. The way he hits fours and sixes is wonderful." The former cricketer underscored that while talent is crucial, the courage to play aggressively at a young age is what truly sets Sooryavanshi apart from other players.

Impressive International Debut and Performance

Sooryavanshi recently showcased his skills during a T20I series against Zimbabwe, where he amassed 151 runs across three matches, earning him the Player of the Series title as India achieved a clean sweep with a 3-0 victory. His international debut came earlier this year during a T20I series against England, making him the youngest player to represent India at this level.

His rise to prominence was bolstered by a stellar performance in the IPL 2026 season with the Rajasthan Royals, where he scored an impressive 776 runs at a striking rate of 237.30. This included a century and five half-centuries, making him the tournament's highest run-scorer and setting a record with 72 sixes. Sooryavanshi's exceptional season earned him multiple accolades, including the Orange Cap, Most Valuable Player, Emerging Player, Super Striker, and Super Sixes awards.

Recognition in Under-19 Cricket

Earlier this year, Sooryavanshi also made headlines during the ICC Men's Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where he scored 439 runs and was named Player of the Tournament. His consistent performances at various levels of cricket have not only garnered attention but also set high expectations for his future in the sport. Dhawan remains optimistic about Sooryavanshi's potential, stating, "I'm sure that his present is also very good and his future will also be very good."
