Pakistan batter Saim Ayub has been released from the national squad currently competing in the ODI tri-series against England and Sri Lanka. The decision follows a request from the left-handed batter to step away from international duties to focus on his domestic form and rebuild his confidence.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the development on Monday, noting that Ayub had struggled for rhythm during the series, recording three consecutive single-digit scores in his recent appearances. Following discussions with the team's head coach, the player opted to return to domestic cricket to address his technical challenges.

PCB supports player decision as Farhan joins squad

In an official statement, the PCB expressed support for Ayub’s proactive approach to his current form. The board confirmed that both the team management and the national selection committee had mutually agreed to the request, acknowledging the player's honest assessment of his performance levels.

To fill the vacancy left by Ayub, the selectors have called up Sahibzada Farhan. Farhan, who recently assumed the role of Pakistan's T20I captain, was not included in the original squad for the tri-series but will now be available for the remaining fixtures.

Pakistan maintains unbeaten run in tri-series

Despite the change in personnel, Pakistan remains in a commanding position in the competition. The team has secured three victories from three matches, successfully booking their place in the tournament final. Their campaign has been highlighted by a dramatic one-wicket victory over England at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, where Shadab Khan struck an unbeaten 113 off 96 balls.

Khan’s maiden century proved decisive in the chase of 242, as he combined with Haris Rauf for an unbroken 89-run partnership for the final wicket to steer his side home in the 48th over. Prior to that result, Pakistan opened their campaign with a 37-run win against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi, where they posted 305, followed by an 87-run victory over England at the same venue after scoring 302/9. As the only unbeaten side in the series, Pakistan now looks ahead to the final with a refreshed squad.
