Sahibzada Farhan Appointed Pakistan T20I Captain as Salman Ali Agha Dropped

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a significant leadership change for the national T20I side, appointing Sahibzada Farhan as captain for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka. Farhan, who recently guided Pakistan to a silver medal at the 2026 Asian Games, steps into the role following the exclusion of Salman Ali Agha from the T20I squad.

While Salman Ali Agha has been removed from the T20I leadership and squad, he remains a part of the ODI setup. The transition marks a strategic shift for the PCB as they prepare for a busy white-ball schedule, beginning with the T20I fixtures at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on October 9, 11, and 13.

New Leadership and Squad Selections

Farhan will lead a 15-member squad tasked with facing Sri Lanka in the T20I series. The selected group includes Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmed, Arafat Minhas, Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Nawaz, Khawaja Nafay, Maaz Sadaqat, Mohammad Salman Mirza, Muhammad Imran Randhawa, Naseem Shah, Razaullah, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, and Sufiyan Moqim. This selection follows the team's recent performance at the Asian Games, where they claimed silver after a 19-run loss to India in the final.

In contrast to the T20I changes, the PCB has maintained continuity in the ODI format. Shaheen Shah Afridi will continue to lead the ODI side during the upcoming tri-series against England and Sri Lanka. The ODI squad features a blend of experienced players and emerging talent, including Babar Azam, Haris Rauf, and Faheem Ashraf, alongside Salman Ali Agha, who retains his place in the 50-over format.

Upcoming White-Ball Campaign

Following the conclusion of the T20I series in Rawalpindi, Pakistan will shift focus to a seven-match ODI tri-series. The tournament is scheduled to commence in Rawalpindi before moving to Lahore for the final four matches, including the tournament final on October 31.

The ODI schedule begins on October 18 with Pakistan facing Sri Lanka, followed by matches against England on October 20 in Rawalpindi and October 25 in Lahore. The series continues with further encounters between the three nations, culminating in the final in Lahore to conclude the white-ball campaign.
