Rohan Rajbhar hits maiden century as Rajasthan dominate Himachal Pradesh in Ranji Trophy

Rohan Rajbhar delivered a standout performance on the second day of the Ranji Trophy Group D encounter in Dharamshala, scoring his maiden First-Class century to put Rajasthan in a commanding position against Himachal Pradesh. The 20-year-old batter anchored his team’s recovery with a composed 140 off 263 deliveries, an innings that featured 11 boundaries and a six.

Following a difficult start where Rajasthan were dismissed for just 78 in their first innings, the visitors staged a remarkable turnaround. Rajbhar’s efforts were central to this resurgence, as he combined with Mahipal Lomror for a pivotal 209-run partnership. By the close of play, Rajasthan had reached 297/4, establishing a significant lead of 222 runs.

A milestone performance built on resilience

Playing in only his fourth First-Class match, Rajbhar displayed maturity beyond his years. His marathon knock eventually concluded when he was stumped off the bowling of Abhishek Kumar. His partner, Lomror, also impressed with a gritty 97 off 190 balls before being caught behind off Arpit Guleria, falling just three runs short of a century.

The emotional significance of the day was evident when Rajbhar reached his hundred. He celebrated by revealing a handwritten note that read, 'Thank You Maa'. Reflecting on the gesture, the youngster explained that the tribute was for his mother, who has supported his journey from humble beginnings. Rajbhar’s father, a POP contractor, had made significant financial sacrifices to ensure his son could pursue cricket from a young age.

Mentorship and inspiration

Rajbhar credited his senior teammate, Lomror, for providing essential guidance throughout the innings. According to Rajbhar, Lomror’s encouragement during difficult moments helped him maintain his focus and confidence at the crease. The young batter also highlighted the influence of his idol, Hardik Pandya, whose peace symbol tattoo he wears on his neck. Rajbhar expressed admiration for how Pandya has handled public criticism, noting that he draws inspiration from the all-rounder’s conduct both on and off the field.

As the match heads into the subsequent days, Rajasthan finds itself in a position of authority. With captain Kartik Sharma and Vishal Harsh currently at the crease, the team will look to build further on their 222-run lead when play resumes.
