Overcoming Challenges in Galle
After Day 1 of the Test, Padikkal reflected on the determination required to endure a physically taxing innings in the sweltering heat and humidity of Galle. “In this knock, determination for me was playing through that tiredness and fatigue that I was feeling, especially towards the third session,” he stated in a video released by the BCCI. He noted the importance of staying focused on a pitch that posed difficulties for batting, emphasizing the need to maintain discipline as fatigue set in.

Reflecting on his long wait to return to the Test side, Padikkal acknowledged the challenges of remaining patient. “It’s been a long time coming, and I’ve had to patiently wait, look on from the outside. It’s never easy,” he admitted. However, he also recognized that this period allowed him to refine his skills. “I’m really glad that all that hard work came to effect today. It feels great,” he added.
As he approached the milestone of his century, Padikkal experienced nerves but ultimately overcame the pressure. “I was a bit nervous towards the end when I got closer to it, but I think that’s part of it,” he remarked. He expressed gratitude for the support he received at the ground, which has become a special venue for him, having previously scored runs there in both the India SI tour and the warm-up match.
