Indian track and field athletes to train in Japan prior to the Asian Games.

The Indian athletics team is set to embark on a brief acclimatization camp at the University of Tsukuba, located near Tokyo, in preparation for the upcoming Asian Games scheduled for September and October in Aichi-Nagoya. This initiative follows a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in June between the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the University of Tsukuba, aimed at enhancing the training and development of Indian athletes, coaches, and sports scientists through specialized programs in Japan.

The national athletics squad will depart for Japan following their participation in the Indian Athletics Final Series, an invitational event taking place in New Delhi on September 10. This camp is expected to provide the athletes with valuable experience and training opportunities ahead of the prestigious Asian Games.

Return to India for Final Preparations

Before heading to Japan, the athletes currently training in Jablonec, Czech Republic, are anticipated to return to India within the next few days. Upon their return, they will engage in a brief training session at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. This training stint coincides with the Indian Open World Athletics Silver Level Continental Tour event, which is set to occur on August 22. The event will feature a number of prominent Indian athletes, including Murali Sreeshankar, Ancy Sojan, Jyothi Yarraji, Gurindervir Singh, Animesh Kujur, and Kishore Jena, all of whom are gearing up for the Asian Games.

Notably, Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra will not be participating in the Bhubaneswar event, as he is scheduled to compete in the Lausanne Diamond League on August 21. His absence highlights the rigorous competition and preparation that Indian athletes are undertaking as they aim for success in the upcoming Asian Games.
