Bhuvneshwar Kumar Called Up to India Squad for T20I Series Decider Against West Indies

India have bolstered their pace attack ahead of the fifth and final T20I against the West Indies, drafting veteran bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar into the squad. The move comes as a precautionary measure following a shoulder injury sustained by Arshdeep Singh during the fourth match of the series in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The series, currently locked at 2-2, is set to conclude at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on October 17. While Arshdeep remains with the squad, team management will monitor his recovery closely, with a final decision on his availability for the decider to be made closer to the start of play.

A Timely Return for the Experienced Pacer

Bhuvneshwar’s inclusion marks a notable return to the national setup for the 36-year-old, who has not featured for India since the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final. He was already slated to join the team for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand, making his integration into the current squad a seamless transition.

The call-up follows a standout performance in the 2026 Indian Premier League, where Bhuvneshwar played a pivotal role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s successful title defence. His form throughout the campaign was instrumental in the franchise securing consecutive trophies; he concluded the season as the tournament's second-highest wicket-taker, claiming 28 wickets across 16 matches at an economy rate of 7.95.

Series Decider Stakes

The upcoming clash in Bengaluru carries significant weight, with the series hanging in the balance after the West Indies secured a 24-run victory in the fourth T20I. India will be looking to bounce back and clinch the series, with Bhuvneshwar providing a wealth of experience to the bowling unit as they prepare for the final encounter.

The updated Indian squad for the final match includes Shreyas Iyer as captain, supported by Tilak Varma as vice-captain. The roster features Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav, Mayank Yadav, Naman Dhir, and the newly added Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
