Inspiration from a Champion
Reflecting on his experience, Yashvir shared how Neeraj's encouragement played a pivotal role in his success. "I had to overcome the adverse conditions. Neeraj motivated me before my final throw and supported me. He told me to keep the javelin in one line, and it paid off," Yashvir stated in an interview with PTI after receiving a warm welcome at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.
This competition marked a significant milestone in Yashvir's athletic career. "This was one of the biggest tournaments of my life, so my only aim was to give my 100 percent effort and leave nothing behind. I wanted to produce my personal best there," he explained. His determination paid off, as he not only achieved a personal best but also clinched a medal in a highly competitive field.
Technique and Focus
Yashvir elaborated on the technical aspects of his throw, emphasizing the importance of alignment. Keeping the javelin in line with his shoulder is a critical technique that maximizes distance while minimizing strain on the arm. He described the process of following Neeraj's advice, which involved holding the javelin at ear level, aligning his shoulders with the throw direction, and releasing the javelin in a straight line over his shoulder.
Despite the high stakes, Yashvir felt little pressure during the event, as the attention was primarily on his fellow competitors, including Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem and Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage. "I had no pressure as the focus was on Neeraj, Nadeem, and Rumesh. I just had to give my 100 percent effort. I kept telling myself to achieve my personal best. God was kind, and it happened," he concluded, reflecting on his journey and the support he received.
