Tanya Chaudhary and Nirbhay Choudhary Set National Records at Athletics Final Series

The Indian Athletics Final Series served as a crucial final dress rehearsal for the nation's elite track and field stars ahead of the Asian Games. While the event featured many of the country's biggest names, the spotlight fell firmly on the throwing circle, where two national records were rewritten in a display of exceptional form.

Tanya Chaudhary emerged as the standout performer, claiming the gold medal in the women's hammer throw with a distance of 68.35m. This effort established a new national record, surpassing the previous benchmark. The competition saw a high level of intensity, with 18-year-old Anushka Yadav, who had set a national record of 67.02m just two months prior, securing the silver medal with a throw of 66.34m.

On the track, Animesh Kujur demonstrated his sprinting prowess by securing a 100m-200m double. He clocked 10.21 seconds to win the 100m, finishing ahead of Gurindervir Singh and Rushiprasad Singh, before returning later in the evening to claim the 200m title in 20.59 seconds. In the women's 100m, Harita Bhadra took top honors with a time of 11.22 seconds, marking her final competitive outing before the Asian Games.

The 400m event proved to be highly competitive, with winner Vishal T.K. clocking 45.36 seconds in a race where six of the eight participants finished under the 46-second mark. Meanwhile, Avinash Sable made a dominant return to the steeplechase after an 18-month hiatus, finishing more than 18 seconds ahead of his closest rival, Shubham Bhandare. The event concluded with a series of strong performances across various disciplines, including Tajinderpal Singh Toor’s 20.64m shot put effort and Annu Rani’s 57.50m javelin throw, as athletes look to carry their form into the upcoming continental competition.
