In a thrilling display of athletic prowess, Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra showcased his exceptional skills at the Lausanne Diamond League meet on Friday, achieving his best performance in over a year. The 28-year-old athlete recorded a remarkable throw of 88.05 meters in the second round, securing him the second position in a competitive field of nine elite competitors. This throw marked a significant improvement for Chopra, who last achieved a better distance of 88.16 meters while clinching victory at the Paris Diamond League in June 2025. It also stands as his best throw of the current season.

Despite Chopra's impressive performance, it was Sri Lanka's emerging star, Rumesh Pathirage, who claimed the top spot in a closely contested event. The 23-year-old Pathirage continued his impressive season by surpassing Chopra with a throw of 88.14 meters in the third round, edging out the Indian athlete by a mere nine centimeters. The narrow margin of just 0.09 meters between their best throws highlights the intense competition and skill displayed by both athletes throughout the event.

Completing the podium was Grenada's Anderson Peters, who finished in third place with a final throw of 86.69 meters in the sixth round. The Lausanne meet not only showcased the talents of established athletes but also highlighted the emergence of new stars in the javelin throw discipline, with Pathirage's performance signaling his potential to become a formidable competitor on the international stage.
