Commonwealth Games bronze medallist
Training Under Family Guidance
Yashvir has been diligently addressing technical aspects of his throws, including speed and blocking lag, under the watchful eye of his father. Rai Singh, who once aspired to compete at a high level himself, threw approximately 75 meters during his athletic career and now serves as a coach for the Railways. “My father had a dream which he couldn’t achieve, but he is dedicated to helping me reach my potential,” Yashvir explained. The bond between father and son extends beyond training; they often share light-hearted moments, such as enjoying ice cream together, which adds a relaxed dynamic to their rigorous training sessions.
Reflecting on his recent achievements, Yashvir noted that his confidence surged after competing alongside renowned athletes like Neeraj Chopra, who secured a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. “The competition was intense, and I was thrilled to earn my best performance and a medal. This was a historic moment for us, as it marked the first time we won two medals at the Games,” he said, emphasizing the valuable experience gained from competing against elite athletes.
Aiming for Improvement
As he prepares for the upcoming Silver meet, Yashvir is determined to surpass his previous performance. “Last year, I participated in a Bronze Level competition and finished sixth. This time, I aim to give my absolute best,” he stated. He is aware of the strong competition he will face, including international athletes from Sri Lanka and South Africa, which he believes will provide additional motivation. “The level of competition will be high, and I am looking forward to the challenge,” Yashvir added, expressing his eagerness to showcase his skills on a larger stage.
