Baranica Elangovan Reflects on Surreal Asian Games Pole Vault Bronze

For Indian pole vaulter Baranica Elangovan, the realization of her podium finish at the Asian Games was a process defined more by disbelief than immediate celebration. As the competition reached its tense conclusion, with Misaki Morota attempting to clear 4.61m, the wait for the final standings felt interminable to the athlete.

Even after being informed of her bronze medal by teammate Sindhushree, Baranica remained skeptical of the result. It was only after repeated checks and direct confirmation from her coach, Milber Bertrand Russell, that the reality of her achievement began to sink in. Describing the moment as surreal, she noted that the true weight of the accomplishment would likely only be felt once the medal was physically in her possession.

Strong Performances Across Athletics Events

The success on the field was mirrored on the track, where Gulveer Singh delivered a standout performance in the 10,000m. Building on his previous bronze medal from the 2023 Hangzhou Games, Singh upgraded to a silver medal in this latest outing. Despite the physical toll of the race and the prospect of competing in further events, the runner expressed satisfaction with his progress. He emphasized that his primary focus remains on securing medals and consistent improvement rather than fixating on specific race times.

In the shot put arena, Manpreet Kaur also made her mark, though she remains focused on her ongoing development. Under the guidance of coach Parveer Singh, Kaur is currently refining her technique, strength, and throwing angles. Reflecting on her performance, she acknowledged that while she is pleased with her progress, she believes there is significant room for further improvement as she continues to learn and implement new technical adjustments.
