India’s campaign in the men’s 100m sprint at the 2026 Asian Games concluded on Friday as both Gurindervir Singh and Animesh Kujur were eliminated during the semifinal stage. Despite showing promise in the preliminary heats, neither athlete could secure a spot in the final, facing a highly competitive field in the penultimate round.

Gurindervir Singh, who had successfully navigated his way to the semifinals by clocking 10.38 seconds in his heat, improved his time to 10.32 seconds in the second semifinal heat. However, this effort was only enough for a fifth-place finish. The heat was dominated by Ali Balushi of Oman and China’s Zhenye Xie, who progressed to the final. Meanwhile, Animesh Kujur finished seventh in his respective semifinal heat with a time of 10.38 seconds, bringing his individual run in the event to an end.

In the women’s heptathlon, Indian representatives Pooja and Anamika Kozhinjaparambil faced a challenging final day of competition. Both athletes participated in the 800m event, where Pooja recorded a time of 2:16.43, while Anamika finished the race in 2:18.06. These performances were not sufficient to propel them into the medal positions in the overall standings.

Pooja concluded the heptathlon in sixth place with a total of 5,368 points, while Anamika finished eighth with 5,234 points. The gold medal was secured by Japan’s Yuri Tanaka, who dominated the field with 5,920 points. Her teammate Nanaka Kajiki took the silver with 5,673 points, and Kazakhstan’s Alina Chistyakova rounded out the podium with a bronze medal score of 5,568 points.

The competition also saw strong performances from athletes representing Uzbekistan, Chinese Taipei, and Indonesia, who filled the positions between the top three and the Indian pair. The event concluded with Vietnam’s Thang Giang Hoang and Iran’s Fatemeh Mohitizadeh rounding out the final standings.
