Serena and Venus Williams Awarded US Open Doubles Wild Card

Tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams are set to reunite on the court at the upcoming US Open after receiving a wild card entry into the doubles draw. The announcement, confirmed by tournament officials on Wednesday, marks another chapter for the decorated siblings at the Grand Slam event they famously conquered in 1999 and 2009.

The pair recently signaled their return to competitive doubles action at the Cincinnati Open, ending a hiatus that had lasted nearly four years. Their inclusion in the New York field represents their ninth joint appearance in the US Open doubles competition and their first since 2022.

A Storied Partnership Returns to Flushing Meadows

Throughout their illustrious careers, the Williams sisters have secured 14 major doubles titles together. Their participation in this year's tournament follows a period of transition for both athletes. Serena, 44, had previously stepped away from professional tennis following the 2022 US Open, only to return to the competitive circuit this past June.

The sisters had originally planned to compete as a team at Wimbledon earlier this summer. However, those plans were derailed when Serena sustained a knee injury during her opening-round singles match at the All England Club, forcing the duo to withdraw from the tournament.

As the US Open approaches, Serena is set to focus exclusively on the doubles event. Her recent preparation included a run to the quarterfinals in the mixed doubles alongside Carlos Alcaraz, though the duo was ultimately defeated by Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Venus, 46, has also been granted a wild card to compete in the singles draw.

The main draw for the US Open is scheduled to commence this Sunday, with the doubles competition slated to begin later in the week. Fans will be watching closely as the sisters look to add another performance to their extensive history at the tournament.
