Coco Gauff Cruises Past Iva Jovic to Reach US Open Quarterfinals

Coco Gauff has secured her place in the US Open quarterfinals, marking her first appearance in the final eight at Flushing Meadows since her championship-winning campaign in 2023. The fourth-seeded American delivered a clinical performance on Monday night, defeating Iva Jovic 6-1, 6-4 to maintain her momentum in the tournament.

This victory extends Gauff’s current winning streak to 10 consecutive matches. Notably, the win over Jovic was her ninth straight-sets triumph in a row, representing the longest such streak of her professional career. Gauff has remained dominant throughout the North American hard-court swing, having not dropped a single set since her opening match at the Cincinnati Open, where she ultimately claimed the title.

A Milestone Season for the American Star

With her progression to the quarterfinals in New York, Gauff has now reached the final eight at three major tournaments within a single calendar year for the first time in her career. At 22 years old, this achievement makes her the youngest American woman to reach three major quarterfinals in one year since Serena Williams accomplished the feat at age 21 in 2003.

The match against Jovic, who had previously defeated No. 17 seed Alexandra Eala, saw Gauff dictate play from the outset. While Jovic was aiming to replicate her quarterfinal run from this year's Australian Open, she was unable to disrupt the rhythm of the 2023 US Open champion.

Looking Ahead to the Quarterfinal Clash

Gauff’s path to the semifinals will require her to overcome fifth-seeded Mirra Andreeva in their upcoming match on Wednesday. The two players are set to meet in a highly anticipated encounter, with Gauff currently holding a 5-0 advantage in their head-to-head series.

Their previous meetings include a clash on hard courts at the 2023 US Open, which Gauff won. As she continues her pursuit of a second title at her home Grand Slam, Gauff will look to maintain the form that saw her exit the tournament in the fourth round in both 2024 and 2025 before this year's resurgence.
