Arthur Fery Prepares for US Open Main Draw Debut Following Breakthrough Summer

British tennis player Arthur Fery is set to make his main draw debut at the US Open, aiming to carry the momentum from a career-defining summer into the final Grand Slam of the season. The 24-year-old, who captured attention with a surprise semifinal run at Wimbledon earlier this year, has rapidly ascended the world rankings and is now positioned to test his skills on the hard courts of Flushing Meadows.

Fery’s rise has been one of the most notable stories of the 2026 season. Entering Wimbledon as a wildcard ranked 114th in the world, he defied expectations by reaching the final four before eventually falling to Alexander Zverev. That performance served as a catalyst for his climb into the top 40, where he currently sits at world No. 37, narrowly trailing compatriot Cameron Norrie.

Building Momentum on the Hard Courts

Following his success in London, Fery transitioned to the hard-court circuit with a focus on maintaining his form. His preparation included an appearance at the Cincinnati Open, where he reached the third round and pushed world No. 5 Alex de Minaur in a competitive contest. He has continued his progress this week at the Winston-Salem Open, successfully advancing to the semifinals to set up a clash with Australian James Duckworth.

This recent string of results has bolstered Fery’s confidence as he prepares for his first-ever main draw appearance at the US Open. Although he narrowly missed out on a seeded position for the tournament, his aggressive playing style has proven difficult for opponents to prepare for, largely due to a lack of extensive tour-level data and footage available for analysis.

A Challenging Opening Test

The draw for the US Open has presented Fery with a significant opening-round hurdle. He is scheduled to face world No. 14 Lorenzo Musetti on August 30. Musetti, a quarterfinalist at this event last year, has been working his way back to full fitness following a thigh injury that sidelined him earlier in the summer. The Italian has shown signs of recovery recently, recording quarterfinal finishes at both the Citi Open and the Cincinnati Open.

This upcoming match marks the first meeting between Fery and Musetti on the ATP Tour. Should Fery navigate past the Italian, he would face either Dane Sweeny or Corentin Moutet in the second round. Having started the 2026 season ranked outside the top 150, Fery’s rapid climb into the world’s top 40 underscores his current form as he looks to make a lasting impression on his debut in New York.
