The victory, representing Sarainaga Racing Pvt Ltd through owner Mr. Tegbir Singh Brar, saw Tolkien finish two lengths clear of the runner-up, Mother’s Grace. Natural Diamond finished in third place, while Nevada Gold rounded out the top four. The race, which saw Art Collection scratched from the field, highlighted a successful day for the Byramji stable.
Supporting races and results
Earlier in the day, the racing programme featured several competitive plates across various distances. In the 1,200-metre Sri Kanteerava Narasimharaja Sports Club Trophy, Flaming Sword, ridden by Trevor and trained by S. Dominic, claimed victory. The horse finished three lengths ahead of Splendid Dream, with Doncaster Belle and Lasya completing the frame.
The 1,400-metre Lokapavani Plate was won by Walter, guided by jockey Srinath for trainer Vinesh Naik, finishing 2-1/2 lengths in front of Sheer Elegance. Meanwhile, the 1,600-metre Talakadu Plate saw Haniel, under jockey Aleemuddin, secure a comfortable win by 5-1/2 lengths ahead of Turkoman. In the 1,200-metre Secunderabad Plate, Feronia lived up to the betting support to win by three lengths, while True Gold took the honours in the second division of the Regency Gold Plate.
Surprise finish in the final division
The first division of the Regency Gold Plate provided the most significant upset of the afternoon. Wood Art, ridden by Ayaz Khan and trained by M.M. Uthaiah, claimed the win in a tightly contested finish where the top four horses were separated by only three-quarters of a length each. The result led to a carryover in the forecast and exacta pools, as the race favourite, Star Comet, could only manage a third-place finish behind runner-up The Grey Geranium and fourth-placed Vayu.
