Stud Poker Claims Zavaray S. Poonawalla Mysore 2000 Guineas Victory

Stud Poker delivered a commanding performance to clinch the Zavaray S. Poonawalla Mysore 2000 Guineas on Thursday, October 1. The gelding, expertly trained by Prasanna Kumar, proved too strong for the competition in the 1,600-meter feature event at the Mysore Race Club, crossing the finish line 1-3/4 lengths ahead of the runner-up.

The victory was a highlight of a highly successful day for jockey Antony Raj, who steered the winner to glory and completed a personal treble across the day's racing card. Black Irish, ridden by L.A. Rozario, finished in second place, while Arc Of Life, with Suraj in the saddle, took third. Seize The Grey completed the frame in fourth position. The winning time for the 1,600-meter contest was recorded at 1:35.09.

A Day of Dominance at Mysore

The triumph of Stud Poker, owned by a consortium including Dr. Cyrus S. Poonawalla and Mr. Adar C. Poonawalla, represented the centerpiece of a busy afternoon of racing. The gelding entered the race as the favourite, justifying the confidence of punters with a professional display that saw him comfortably clear of the rest of the field.

Antony Raj’s influence on the day extended well beyond the feature race. In addition to his success aboard Stud Poker, the jockey also guided My Solitaire to victory in the second division of the Nainital Plate and secured a win in the Coorg Plate riding Star of Light. These performances underscored a productive outing for both the jockey and trainer Prasanna Kumar, who also celebrated a win with Moon Oracle in the first division of the Original Vel Racing Trophy earlier in the day.

Supporting Results

The day’s racing featured a variety of competitive fields across seven events. Other notable winners included Your Sri Shakthi, who claimed the second division of the Original Vel Racing Trophy, and Balgownie, which took the Hotel RRR Trophy. Martino rounded out the day's proceedings by winning the first division of the Nainital Plate. The event concluded with the distribution of the winner’s trophy by Mysore Race Club chairman K.T. Balakrishna, marking the end of a significant day in the local racing calendar.
