Suraj Narredu Achieves Historic Victory for India in Japan

Suraj Narredu, a prominent Indian jockey, achieved a significant milestone in his career by securing his inaugural victory with the Japan Racing Association (JRA) at the Sapporo Racecourse on Saturday, August 22. This remarkable accomplishment not only highlights Narredu's exceptional skills but also brought pride to India, as he was affectionately dubbed “India’s Magic Man” by the Japanese commentator during the race, underscoring his impressive talent and achievements in the sport.

In his debut race in Japan, Narredu rode the horse Fier Chanter, trained by Kensuke Ogura, to a stunning victory in a 2,600-meter race designated for three-year-old maidens. This win marked a memorable start to his journey in Japan, following a fourth-place finish aboard Mont Royal in his first race, which was a 1,700-meter event. Narredu's triumph with Fier Chanter came in the sixth race of the day, solidifying his status as a competitive force in the international racing scene.

During the opening day of the 2026 World All-Star Jockeys Championship, Narredu's performance earned him a total of 10 points, placing him ninth in the standings after the first two races. The championship features elite jockeys from around the world, competing across various distances and surfaces. The initial races on Saturday were conducted over 1,200 meters and 2,000 meters on turf, with two additional races scheduled for Sunday, August 23, covering 1,700 meters on dirt and 1,800 meters on turf.

Looking ahead, Narredu is set to ride four horses on Sunday, including Trigonic, Cuthbert Tesoro, Itsumo Nikoniko, and Bene Spira. His final two rides will take place in the concluding legs of the World All-Star Jockeys Championship, where he aims to further enhance his standing in this prestigious event.
