FIVB Grants Recognition to Prime Volleyball League; Season 5 Set to Begin on November 30

The Prime Volleyball League (PVL) has achieved a significant milestone by receiving official recognition from the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) as India's premier professional volleyball league. This announcement was made on July 8, 2026, with the league set to commence its fifth season on November 30. The upcoming season will feature a players' auction scheduled for August 17 in Goa, where franchises will have the opportunity to select from a pool of the nation’s top volleyball talent.

FIVB Recognition and International Opportunities

The FIVB's endorsement marks a pivotal moment for the PVL, highlighting its growth and influence over the past four years. According to a press release from the league's organizers, this recognition positions the PVL as the first division professional volleyball league in India. Furthermore, clubs participating in the league will now be eligible to compete in international tournaments organized by the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA), the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), and other FIVB club competitions, contingent upon meeting specific regulations and qualification criteria.

"This pathway creates new opportunities for Indian clubs to test themselves against top teams across Asia and globally," the press release noted. Tuhin Mishra, Managing Director and co-founder of Baseline Ventures, expressed that this recognition is a testament to the hard work invested in establishing a credible and competitive league. "Season 5 marks a defining moment for the Prime Volleyball League. The FIVB recognition is a strong validation of the work that has gone in over the last four years," he stated.

Focus on Development and Future Prospects

Joy Bhattacharjya, the CEO of the league, emphasized the importance of this achievement in the context of Indian volleyball's progress. He pointed out that the national team has improved its standing in the FIVB rankings, moving from World No. 60 to World No. 42. "It is encouraging to see Indian volleyball moving in the right direction, reflected in the national team's rise," he added.

In a collaborative effort to enhance the sport, the FIVB has requested that Virender Kanwar, the interim head of the Volleyball Federation of India, work closely with the PVL. This partnership aims to align the domestic calendar, ensure player availability, and integrate training camps, which are crucial for developing a structured pathway for athlete growth and improving India's performance on the international stage.
