India guarantees six medals in the U-23 men's division at the Asian boxing championships.

India's U-23 men's boxing team showcased an impressive performance at the Asian U-19 & U-23 Boxing Championships, held on July 10, 2026, with six boxers securing their spots in the semifinals, thereby guaranteeing themselves medals. The event has highlighted the strength and skill of the Indian contingent in the competition.

Dominant Performances Lead to Semifinal Spots

Leading the Indian squad was Vishvanath, the reigning Asian Champion in the 50kg category, who delivered a commanding performance against Saudi Arabia's Ibrahim Aljohani, winning decisively with a score of 5:0. Following closely, Ganga, competing in the 55kg division, mirrored this success by defeating Vietnam's Quang Loc Tran with an equally impressive 5:0 victory.

In the 65kg category, Vanshaj also made his mark, securing a solid 4:1 win over Kazakhstan's Assylkhan Kosherbay. Hitesh, fighting in the 70kg class, stood out with a remarkable performance, stopping Indonesia's Radiyansyah by referee stopping contest (RSC) in the first round, showcasing his knockout power and tactical prowess.

Close Contests and Future Prospects

Despite the strong showings from several boxers, not all matches ended in favor of the Indian team. Aryan Malik, competing in the 80kg category, faced a tough battle but ultimately lost with a score of 1:4. Similarly, Rocky Chaudhary in the 85kg division was defeated with a score of 0:4. Hemant Sangwan, fighting in the 90kg category, also faced a challenging opponent in Uzbekistan's Samir Sobirov, resulting in a 0:5 loss.

With these results, India has secured a total of six medals in the U-23 men's boxing competition. The semifinalists include Vishvanath (50kg), Ganga (55kg), Vanshaj (65kg), Hitesh (70kg), Neeraj (75kg), and Ishan Kataria (+90kg). The team's strong performance thus far has set a promising tone for the upcoming matches, as they aim to add more medals to their tally.
