Japan's surfers made a remarkable impact, with all eight semifinalists hailing from the nation. The standout competitors included Ren Okano, Taro Takai, Raimu Yamamoto, Ikko Watanabe, Yuma Nagasawa, Taro Matsuno, Taki Kanazawa, and Sentaro Sakai. Their consistent performances throughout the heats underscored Japan's dominance in the tournament, particularly in the Pro Junior category.
In the Open men’s division, the competition was fierce, but Japanese surfers continued to excel. Shohei Kato led the pack with a score of 14.50, followed closely by Tenshi Iwami at 14.17, Watanabe with 13.16, and Sakai at 12.17. This impressive showing set the stage for an all-Japanese semifinal lineup, further solidifying their stronghold in the event.
Isabel Higgs Shines Among the Competition
In a notable achievement, Thailand’s Isabel Higgs emerged as the only non-Japanese competitor to reach the semifinal stage across all categories. In the Open women’s class, Higgs triumphed over Hinano Shimizu with a score of 11.04, compared to Shimizu’s 10.43, securing her place in the final against Mirai Ikeda. The favorable weather conditions, characterized by clear skies and no rain, contributed to an exciting atmosphere as the competition progressed.
