G. Sathiyan's enduring partnership with Dabang Delhi in the Ultimate Table Tennis league has reached new heights, showcasing his exceptional skills once again. The 33-year-old athlete, who has been a consistent presence for the franchise across all seven seasons, played a pivotal role in their opening match against the UP Prometheans at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium on Friday. Sathiyan secured victories in both of his matches, first teaming up with Spain's Maria Xiao in the mixed doubles and later triumphing over Germany's Ricardo Walther in the singles, leading Dabang Delhi to a 9-6 win.

The match began with a competitive spirit, as India's top-ranked player, Manav Thakkar, gave UP Prometheans an early lead by defeating Youssef Abdelaziz in the first men's singles match. However, Maria Xiao quickly leveled the score for Dabang Delhi by overcoming Yangzi Liu in the women's singles. With both teams tied at 3-3 after the initial matches, the mixed doubles became crucial. Sathiyan and Maria showcased their synergy, delivering a commanding 3-0 victory against the UP duo of Manav and Yangzi, which shifted the momentum in favor of Delhi.

Returning to the table for the fourth singles, Sathiyan demonstrated his prowess, combining aggressive play with his signature consistency to defeat Walther 2-1. This victory effectively secured the match for Dabang Delhi. In the final women's singles, UP's Sayali Wani managed to fend off a determined challenge from 15-year-old Divyanshi Bhowmick, winning 2-1 and narrowing the final score to 9-6.

In a notable development, the Table Tennis Review (TTR) system was utilized for the first time in the history of the Butterfly UTT during this match, with three reviews conducted throughout the contest. The results of the matches were as follows: Dabang Delhi defeated UP Prometheans 9-6, while Kolkata ThunderBlades edged out PBG Pune Jaguars 8-7 in another closely contested match.
