The launch event drew a substantial crowd, featuring former students he recruited during his time at the institution between 1974 and 2005, alongside fellow physical education directors and long-time associates. The gathering served as a tribute to his enduring influence as a coach and mentor, highlighting the deep connections he fostered throughout his professional life.
Celebrating a Legacy of Sporting Leadership
The event featured remarks from Aadhav Arjuna, the Minister for Public Works and Sports Development, who served as the chief guest. Reflecting on Sathiyaseelan’s career, the Minister noted the educator's humble beginnings in the town panchayat of Pattiveeranpatti in the Dindigul district. He praised the books as a vital contribution to the current sporting landscape, describing them as a comprehensive chronicle of a life dedicated to the development of basketball.
Renowned athletics coach M. V. Rajasekhar also offered his perspective, characterizing Inhale the Fragrance of Sports as a testament to a lifetime of service. He emphasized that the work encapsulates decades of leadership, lessons, and the philosophies that guided generations of athletes under Sathiyaseelan’s tutelage. Similarly, V. P. Dhanpal, a certified official with the International Basketball Federation (IBA), spoke at length regarding the technical and historical insights provided in The Game of Basketball: Origin and Transformation.
Reflecting on a Lifelong Commitment
During the ceremony, Sathiyaseelan expressed his gratitude toward the Loyola College management for their sustained support throughout his career. He reflected on his personal connection to the sport, stating that basketball had been like a parent to him, while his students were treated as his own. The event was also attended by Rev. Fr. Joseph Antony Jacob SJ, the President of Sports and Games at Loyola College, marking a formal recognition of the former director's contributions to the institution’s sporting history.
