The New England Patriots are set to face the Las Vegas Raiders this Sunday without their top two starting cornerbacks. Head coach Mike Vrabel confirmed on Friday that both Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis III will be unavailable for the home matchup, significantly depleting the team's defensive backfield.

The injury report extends beyond the starting duo, with backup cornerbacks Karon Prunty and Channing Canada also ruled out due to hamstring issues. Additionally, the Patriots will be missing fullback Reggie Gilliam, who is dealing with an ankle and knee injury, and veteran wide receiver Mack Hollins, who is sidelined with a calf problem.

Secondary reshuffle and defensive adjustments

Christian Gonzalez is set to miss his second consecutive game after suffering a shoulder injury during the Week 3 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite playing through the initial impact, the cornerback has not participated in practice since that contest. Similarly, Carlton Davis will be sidelined for the second time this season, having previously missed the Week 2 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers with a neck injury.

With the secondary depth severely tested, the coaching staff is expected to adjust their defensive scheme, particularly when defending Raiders tight end Brock Bowers. Marcus Jones is projected to see increased snaps on the outside, a role he filled during the previous week. The team is also looking toward Charles Woods, who has seen his workload grow, though his availability remains slightly tempered by a shoulder issue that limited his practice time this week.

Kindle Vildor, a seven-year veteran recently elevated from the practice squad, is also expected to feature in the defensive rotation. Defensive coordinator Zak Kuhr praised Vildor’s professionalism, noting the team’s confidence in his ability to step into the lineup if called upon.

On the offensive side, starting running back Rhamondre Stevenson remains a question mark for Sunday. While he has been limited in practice throughout the week, Stevenson expressed optimism about his status, describing his recent injury as a minor scare sustained during the win against the Bills. Coach Vrabel indicated that further roster adjustments are imminent, with special teams standout Brenden Schooler expected to be activated from the reserve/non-football injury list ahead of the Saturday deadline.
