The
Running back Breece Hall, wide receiver Adonai Mitchell, tight end Mason Taylor, and left guard Dylan Parham were all sidelined for the entirety of this week's practice sessions. Their absence forces the coaching staff to lean heavily on depth players as the team attempts to improve upon a 1-2 record against a 2-1 Bears squad.
Managing injuries and shifting roles
The backfield will see a notable change as
Offensive coordinator Frank Reich emphasized a focus on process over panic, stating that the team maintains a sense of urgency despite recent results. On the offensive line, Jordan Meredith is set to step in for Parham at left guard. Meredith, who joined the team via a preseason trade from the Las Vegas Raiders, brings 20 career starts to the position. Meanwhile, the receiving corps continues to navigate a difficult injury landscape. With Omar Cooper Jr., Tim Patrick, and Arian Smith already on injured reserve, Isaiah Williams is expected to start in place of Mitchell, while Sterling Shepard will be elevated from the practice squad to handle the No. 3 receiver role.
Defensive stability and tight end depth
While the offense faces significant turnover, the defensive unit is nearing full strength. Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick is set to return to the lineup after missing two games with a groin injury, meaning the Jets will field 10 of their 11 defensive starters. The only notable absence on that side of the ball remains defensive tackle David Onyemata, who is currently on injured reserve.
The team appears better equipped to handle the absence of tight end Mason Taylor due to their roster depth. Rookie Kenyon Sadiq is in line for an expanded role after a productive performance against the Detroit Lions, where he recorded seven receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown. The Jets will look to these depth contributors to provide a spark as they aim to secure a victory in Chicago.
