Giants confirm Malik Nabers and key starters available for Commanders clash

The New York Giants have received a significant boost ahead of their upcoming NFC East showdown against the Washington Commanders, with head coach John Harbaugh confirming that wide receiver Malik Nabers is expected to be available for Sunday's contest. Nabers had sparked concern earlier in the week after missing a practice session due to soreness in his right knee.

The star receiver, who has been managing the knee since undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL last season, was a limited participant in Thursday's practice. Despite the lingering discomfort, the team remains confident in his availability. Harbaugh addressed the situation directly, stating that the wideout will be ready to take the field when the Giants look to extend their lead in the division standings.

Injury updates for key Giants personnel

Beyond the status of their primary receiving threat, the Giants are anticipating the return of several other key contributors who have been dealing with minor ailments. Left tackle Andrew Thomas, who has been managing a groin issue, is expected to play. The team has been utilizing maintenance days for Thomas, often keeping him off the practice field on Wednesdays to ensure he remains healthy throughout the rigorous season schedule.

Running back Cam Skattebo and tight end Isaiah Likely are also trending toward playing on Sunday. Both players have been limited or absent from practice sessions throughout the week due to shoulder and knee/groin issues, respectively. Their potential inclusion provides a much-needed lift for the Giants' offense as they prepare to face a 1-3 Commanders side.

Nabers finding his rhythm

Nabers has been a focal point of the Giants' passing attack, currently leading the team with 208 receiving yards. His recovery process has been gradual; after missing the entire spring following a cleanup procedure on his knee, he returned just in time for the season opener. While he admitted to feeling some rust during the initial three weeks of the season, his performance last week against the Arizona Cardinals suggested he is hitting his stride.

During that victory, Nabers recorded six receptions on seven targets, totaling 112 yards and a touchdown. While he acknowledged that he experiences soreness throughout the week, he emphasized his commitment to playing through the discomfort. The 3-1 Giants will rely on his continued production as they aim to maintain their momentum in the NFC East.
