Micah Parsons Claims Jayden Daniels' Late-Game Error Could Cost Dan Quinn His Job

Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons has publicly criticized Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels following a botched final sequence in Sunday’s overtime draw against the New York Giants. Parsons, who played under Commanders head coach Dan Quinn during his time as the Dallas defensive coordinator, suggested that the quarterback's failure to manage the clock effectively could have severe professional consequences for his former coach.

The incident occurred with 50 seconds remaining in overtime and the score tied at 27-27. Washington had advanced to the Giants' 24-yard line but failed to snap the ball again until only 12 seconds remained. With no timeouts available, Daniels scrambled after a fake handoff and was tackled with eight seconds left on the clock. The team was unable to reset in time to spike the ball for a potential game-winning field goal, resulting in a 27-27 tie.

Parsons Questions Quarterback Accountability

Speaking on his podcast, The Edge with Micah Parsons, the Cowboys star expressed his frustration with the lack of situational awareness displayed by the Washington offense. Parsons noted that even defensive players are rigorously trained to handle end-of-game scenarios, arguing that a player in his third NFL season should be well-versed in such high-pressure moments.

Parsons stated that while he is a fan of Daniels, the error was inexcusable given the quarterback's experience level. He emphasized that understanding game situations is a core requirement for an NFL quarterback, especially one commanding a significant salary. According to Parsons, the failure to execute in that moment could ultimately lead to job losses within the organization, specifically naming Quinn.

Quinn Takes Responsibility for Team Performance

Following the game, Daniels accepted accountability for the sequence, acknowledging that the responsibility for the clock management error starts with him. The quarterback admitted that the offense failed to relay the necessary information to handle the situation correctly as time expired.

Dan Quinn, who took over as the Commanders' head coach in 2024, addressed the situation on Monday. He confirmed that he had met with team owner Josh Harris to discuss the team's 1-3-1 record and the disappointing conclusion to the game. While Quinn noted that offensive coordinator David Blough called the play, he maintained that he bears ultimate responsibility for the team's performance and the execution of the final sequence. Quinn stated that he intends to ensure his guidelines are clear moving forward to prevent similar breakdowns.
