Eagles Edge Rusher Jalyx Hunt Unlikely for Panthers Clash

Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has cast significant doubt on the availability of edge rusher Jalyx Hunt for Sunday’s upcoming matchup against the Carolina Panthers. Fangio noted that it would be a miraculous recovery for the defender to suit up, given the ankle and knee injuries he sustained during the team's previous outing.

The injury occurred on the final play of the first half against the Jacksonville Jaguars. While attempting to recover a loose ball following a fourth-down stop by teammate Zack Baun, Hunt’s left leg became pinned underneath him in an awkward position. The pass rusher remained on the field for an extended period before requiring assistance from the training staff to leave the playing surface.

Injury Updates and Roster Outlook

Despite the pessimistic outlook for this weekend, Fangio praised Hunt’s competitive spirit and determination. He noted that the player is the type of individual who will push the medical staff to clear him for action and will not show any hesitation when he is eventually ready to return to the field.

The Eagles' defensive front is currently navigating several personnel challenges. Fellow edge rusher Jonathan Greenard was sidelined for the Jaguars game after failing a pregame test on his injured ankle. Fangio expressed optimism regarding Greenard’s status, stating he hopes the defender will be available to face the Panthers.

Beyond the defensive line, the team is monitoring several key contributors on the offensive side of the ball. Head coach Nick Sirianni expressed hope that wide receiver DeVonta Smith and running back Saquon Barkley could return to action as they recover from hamstring injuries. The Eagles' backfield depth has been tested recently, with Tank Bigsby currently on injured reserve and Will Shipley expected to miss multiple weeks due to a partial plantar fascia tear sustained against Jacksonville.

The secondary also faces uncertainty as the team prepares for the weekend. Safety Marcus Epps was unavailable for the Jacksonville contest due to a groin injury, while Michael Carter II left that same game with an abdominal issue and did not return to the field.
