The
Douglas, a third-round selection out of Texas Tech, sustained the injury during last week’s game against the San Francisco 49ers and was unable to return to the field. Despite initial hopes for his recovery, the receiver did not participate in practice throughout the week. His absence is a significant blow to a Miami offense currently ranked 24th in total yards per game, as Douglas has paced the team with seven receptions for 113 yards through the first two weeks of the season.
Adjusting the Receiving Corps
In the wake of Douglas being sidelined, the Dolphins are expected to lean on fellow rookie Chris Bell and Malik Washington. Bell, who has been managing soreness in his surgically repaired knee, participated in limited practices this week. He noted that medical staff have described the fluid and discomfort as a normal part of his recovery process following an ACL tear last December. The team also appears ready to integrate Jalen Tolbert, who has been a healthy scratch for the first two games of the season.
Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik emphasized that the primary focus for the coaching staff is establishing chemistry between the available receivers and quarterback Malik Willis. Slowik noted that the game plan remains largely intact, with the priority being the rapport and timing between the passer and his targets. To bolster their depth, the Dolphins have brought back receiver A.J. Henning to the practice squad; Henning previously spent time with the organization during training camp.
Additional Injury Concerns
The Dolphins' roster challenges extend beyond the receiving room. Coach Hafley also confirmed that defensive end Robert Beal Jr. will be unavailable for Sunday’s game due to a hamstring injury. Furthermore, running back Jaylen Wright is listed as doubtful after sustaining a stinger in the loss to San Francisco. These absences leave Miami facing a difficult task as they prepare to face the Chiefs without several key contributors on both sides of the ball.
