The
Douglas, a third-round selection out of Texas Tech, has emerged as a focal point of the Dolphins' passing attack since early August. Through the first two games of the season, he leads the team with seven receptions for 113 yards. The injury occurred during last week's game against the San Francisco 49ers, and after failing to participate in practice throughout the week, he will remain sidelined.
Adjusting the offensive rotation
With Douglas unavailable, the Dolphins are expected to lean on a mix of depth options to fill the void. Coach Hafley expressed confidence in the availability of rookie Chris Bell and Malik Washington. Bell, who is managing soreness in his surgically-repaired knee, has been limited in practice but remains in contention to suit up. He noted that medical staff have indicated the fluid and discomfort are expected following his ACL surgery last December.
The team may also look toward Jalen Tolbert, who has been a healthy scratch for the first two weeks of the season. Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik emphasized that while the personnel changes are notable, the primary focus remains on establishing chemistry between the receiving corps and quarterback Malik Willis. Slowik highlighted the importance of timing and rapport, noting that the offense must ensure the quarterback and his targets are synchronized on their routes and breaks to execute effectively on game day.
Additional injury concerns
The Dolphins' roster challenges extend beyond the wide receiver position. Defensive end Robert Beal Jr. has been ruled out for Sunday’s game as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury. Furthermore, running back Jaylen Wright is listed as doubtful after sustaining a stinger in the loss to San Francisco. In a move to bolster their depth, the Dolphins have brought back receiver A.J. Henning to the practice squad, reuniting with the player who spent time with the organization during the offseason and training camp.
