ASHBURN, Va. — The Washington Commanders are facing a significant setback as left tackle Laremy Tunsil has sustained a torn triceps during practice, which is expected to sideline him for a considerable portion of the upcoming regular season. According to sources, the injury will likely necessitate surgery, with recovery times typically ranging from four to seven months.

Tunsil's injury occurred during a one-on-one pass rush drill on Saturday, where he was matched up against linebacker Odafe Oweh. The incident unfolded when Oweh initiated a rush, driving into Tunsil's upper body, causing the veteran tackle to immediately bend over in pain and clutch his right side. Following the injury, Tunsil was escorted to the medical tent for initial evaluation before being taken inside for further assessment.

This injury is a critical blow to the Commanders' offensive line, as Tunsil is widely regarded as one of the premier tackles in the NFL. The 32-year-old player, who was recently awarded a two-year contract extension worth $61.5 million in guaranteed money, became the first offensive lineman to secure an average of $30 million per season. His presence was pivotal for the team, especially after a challenging 5-12 season last year, and he was the only Commander recognized in the top 10 tackles by coaches and executives heading into the 2026 season.
