Colts Place Arden Key on Injured Reserve as Roster Depth Faces Test

The Indianapolis Colts have confirmed a significant blow to their defensive front, placing defensive end Arden Key on injured reserve following a hamstring injury. The move mandates that Key will remain sidelined for a minimum of four games, forcing the coaching staff to reconfigure their defensive rotation during a critical stretch of the season.

Key sustained the injury during last Sunday’s victory against the Washington Commanders. His absence represents a notable loss for the team, as he has been a consistent presence on the field, participating in 64 percent of the Colts' defensive snaps throughout the current campaign.

Roster Adjustments and Emerging Opportunities

In response to the vacancy, the Colts are looking toward their younger talent to bolster the defensive end position. Second-year player Jaylahn Tuimoloau is expected to see an increased workload, while rookie George Gumbs Jr. may also be called upon to provide depth. Although the organization recently signed veteran free agent Carl Lawson to the practice squad, he was not activated for the roster on Saturday.

The team’s injury concerns extended beyond the defensive line this week. Veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton has been officially ruled out for the upcoming Week 5 clash against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Slayton, who joined the Colts last month and was potentially set to make his debut, suffered a knee injury during Friday's practice session.

To compensate for the loss of Slayton in the receiving corps, Indianapolis has promoted Nick Westbrook-Ikhine from the practice squad to the active roster. These personnel changes highlight the challenges facing the Colts as they prepare for their next matchup, with the coaching staff tasked with integrating new faces and shifting responsibilities to maintain defensive and offensive continuity in the absence of key contributors.
