Javonte Williams powers Cowboys to dominant Monday Night Football win over Eagles

The Dallas Cowboys secured a vital 38-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football, anchored by a career-best performance from running back Javonte Williams. Williams dominated the ground game, racking up 155 rushing yards and adding his eighth rushing touchdown of the season, a mark that currently ties him for the NFL lead.

The win at Lincoln Financial Field marks the first time Dallas has defeated Philadelphia on the road since 2021. The Cowboys' offense, which had struggled to find rhythm in previous weeks, produced a turnover-free performance and totaled 204 rushing yards. Quarterback Dak Prescott contributed significantly to the effort, completing 15 of 27 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns, including two to CeeDee Lamb and one to George Pickens.

Offensive resurgence and defensive challenges

Prescott’s performance was a notable rebound following two difficult outings where he threw four interceptions under heavy pressure. Against the Eagles, he faced minimal defensive resistance, with Philadelphia applying pressure on only 15% of his dropbacks through the first three quarters. This efficiency allowed Prescott to secure his ninth multi-touchdown game against the Eagles, placing him in elite company alongside historical rivals like Eli Manning and Sonny Jurgensen.

The Cowboys also utilized a strategic shift to involve Pickens, moving the receiver into the slot more frequently. The adjustment paid off, with Pickens recording a 21-yard touchdown catch while being defended by safety Andrew Mukuba. Despite the offensive success, the Dallas defense continued a concerning trend, allowing a touchdown on the opening possession for the fourth consecutive game. Saquon Barkley capped a 75-yard opening drive for Philadelphia with an 8-yard scoring run, marking the fifth time this season Dallas has surrendered points on an opponent's first drive.

Philadelphia's mounting concerns

For the Eagles, the loss extends their losing streak to five games, deepening a difficult campaign. While the offense showed signs of life—scoring 10 points in the first quarter, a season high—the defense struggled to contain the Cowboys, allowing 330 yards of total offense before the fourth quarter began. It was a rare lapse for a unit under coordinator Vic Fangio, which had previously remained competitive until late in games.

Saquon Barkley provided a gutsy effort despite battling a hamstring injury, recording 62 rushing yards and a touchdown on seven carries. However, his night ended prematurely after he was ruled questionable to return in the fourth quarter with a back injury. Quarterback Tanner McKee, starting in place of Jalen Hurts, finished with 211 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The Cowboys now sit at 3-4 in the NFC East, while the Eagles look to regroup ahead of their upcoming road game against the Washington Commanders.
