Head coach Todd Monken expressed high regard for Gabriel’s professional approach and preparation, noting that the rookie’s ability to grasp the team's offensive system has been impressive. Gabriel, who started six games during his rookie campaign, demonstrated his potential in the preseason closer by throwing three touchdown passes during the first half of play.
The decision to keep Taylen Green on the roster follows his performance in the second half of the preseason finale. The sixth-round pick completed 5 of 7 passes for 27 yards and showcased his mobility by leading the team with 66 rushing yards on eight carries. Meanwhile, the Browns opted to rest veteran Deshaun Watson, who is confirmed as the Week 1 starter, and his primary backup, Shedeur Sanders, after both received significant repetitions throughout training camp and the earlier stages of the preseason.
Additional Roster Moves
In conjunction with the quarterback adjustments, the Browns placed rookie tight end Joe Royer on the reserve/non-football illness list.
