Cleveland Browns activate Dillon Gabriel from injured reserve

The Cleveland Browns have officially bolstered their quarterback room by activating Dillon Gabriel from injured reserve on Monday. The move provides the AFC North leaders with additional depth at the position, bringing their total count of quarterbacks on the active 53-man roster to four.

Gabriel, who was selected by the franchise in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, had been sidelined since the final roster cutdown deadline in late August due to a back injury. Following his recovery, the team designated him to return to practice on October 6, marking the beginning of his transition back to full participation.

Expanding the quarterback rotation

With Gabriel now back in the mix, he joins a crowded quarterback group that includes starter Deshaun Watson, backup Shedeur Sanders, and rookie Taylen Green. Watson has remained the primary signal-caller for the Browns throughout the season, starting all seven games for the team as they have climbed to a 5-2 record.

Sanders has occupied the backup role behind Watson, while Green, a sixth-round selection, has been utilized as the emergency quarterback on game days. The addition of Gabriel adds another layer of personnel management for the coaching staff as they navigate the remainder of the season.

During his rookie campaign, Gabriel appeared in 10 games, including six starts. Throughout that period, he demonstrated his ability to move the ball through the air, completing 110 of his 185 pass attempts for a total of 937 yards. He also accounted for seven touchdowns during his limited time on the field. The Browns will now look to integrate him back into the active rotation as they continue their campaign atop the AFC North standings.
