Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor has expressed optimism regarding the availability of star wide receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins for the team's upcoming season opener. Both players have been managing injuries during the final stages of their preparations, but the coaching staff expects them to be ready for the Week 1 showdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 13.

While neither receiver participated in the open portion of Tuesday's practice session, Taylor provided a reassuring update on their status. Addressing the media, the head coach confirmed that both key offensive weapons are on track to be available by the time the team takes the field for their first competitive match of the season.

Injury updates and roster status

Ja'Marr Chase has been sidelined with a hyperextended left knee, an injury sustained during a practice session on August 25. Despite the setback, the wideout has maintained a consistent presence in the lineup, having not missed a game due to injury since a shoulder issue in Week 16 of the 2023 season. Meanwhile, Tee Higgins is currently working through a bruised heel, an issue that limited his availability during the latter part of the preseason. Higgins appeared in 15 games throughout the previous campaign.

Beyond the status of his primary receivers, Taylor provided updates on several other members of the roster currently navigating recovery timelines. Safety Bryan Cook has been cleared for action, with the coach noting that he is ready to roll following a hamstring injury that hampered his progress during the final weeks of training camp. Additionally, cornerback Dax Hill is making strides in his recovery from a soft-tissue injury and was scheduled to participate in individual drills on Tuesday.

The team continues to monitor the status of defensive end Shemar Stewart, who remains sidelined after suffering a hyperextended knee during the opening practice of training camp. Stewart is currently listed as week-to-week as he works toward a return to the field. With the season opener against Tampa Bay fast approaching, the Bengals are looking to have as close to a full-strength squad as possible to begin their campaign.
